About the Council—
- The academic council of Gandhi Mahavidyalaya, Orai, operates under the guidance of the academic council of Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. The Academic Council holds the exclusive responsibility for all academic matters. This includes the formulation of academic policy, approval of courses, regulations, syllabi, and more. The principal is the governing body of an educational institution responsible for setting academic policies, establishing educational standards, and supervising instruction and research. It acts as the highest authority on curriculum approval, degree requirements, and examinations. The Council sets rules for academic operations, including admissions, examinations, attendance, and discipline.
- The term of the members of the academic council is two years.
The Role and Responsibilities of the Academic Council
Curriculum Development/Design: Designs, approves, and continuously updates courses, curriculum, syllabi, and reforms for each program and degree structure under the guidance of Bundelkhand University, Jhansi.
Teaching standards: The Academic Council is responsible for maintaining the standards of teaching on campus.
Examination Standards: Sets guidelines for internal assessments and ensures the maintenance of final examination standards and academic calendars.
Academic Standards: Establishes policies for student admissions, attendance, and evaluation metrics.
Research Promotion: Encourages and coordinates institutional research initiatives and partnerships.
Policy Enforcement: Enforces academic bylaws and ordinances and establishes minimum standards for admission and student performance.
Composition of the Academic Council:
The composition of the Academic Council is as follows:
- The Principal (Chairperson): The principal of the college serves as the chairperson of the academic council.
- Department Heads: All heads of departments within the college are members of the Academic Council.
- The Council includes twelve teachers from the college, each representing a different category of teaching staff. These representatives are selected on a rotational basis, based on their seniority of service in the college.
- Member Secretary: A member secretary, nominated by the principal, is also part of the Academic Council.
